Monument description

Imam Yahya completed the building of the Dome of Al-Mutawakkil in the year 1346 AH / 1927 CE, according to the book “Sana’a Mosques” of the historian Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Hajri. Imam Yahya added the purifiers and their pastures on the Black Ghail Road, the spring of water that used to pass from the south to north of Sana‘a, and which was destroyed by the urbanization. Construction stages: The first phase was built on 24/Ramadan in the year 1139 AH / 1726 CE, i.e. the construction of the southern sanctuary and part of the western sanctuary and al-Matahir. The second phase was in the year 1346 AH / 1927 CE, with the restoration of the Dome and the construction of the nine-domed Mosque adjacent to the main Dome from the western side, and the expansion in the south, as well as the bathrooms.
The third stage, between the mid-Seventies and the beginning of the Eighties (1408 AH / 1980 CE), the construction of the modern bathrooms. In the fourth stage, in 1409 AH / 1990 CE, the modern bathrooms were expanded and the eastern and western walls were built, as well as the House of Values and the upper roof.

Architectural and cultural value

Construction style and built date: The construction of the square and domed projections of the Prayer Hall, the Mausoleum and the rest of the accessories are covered with a traditional roof. First to be built on 24/Ramadan in the year 1139 AH / 1726 CE.

Components of the Mosque: Prayer Hall, Minaret, courtyard (alsawh), traditional baths and additions.

    4 – The collapse of some parts of the stone walls of the settlements and the northern gate of the pond

  • – Restoration and re-layer Alqodd in the affected places.Re-dressing and making a coast to drain rainwater on the northern facade.
    – Reconstruct the dilapidated walls.

    – Treating damaged foundations and solving the problem of moisture.
    – Treating roofs and preventing rainwater intrusion.
