ETHIOPIA – Sites

Identified in 2004 as a result of agricultural work, the Aksumite site of Wakarida is located in the mountainous region of eastern Tigray (Ethiopia), at the end of the highlands dominating the great depression of Danakil which extends east, towards the Red Sea. This strategic position led a Franco-Ethiopian archaeological expedition to make it the subject of the systematic research launched in 2011 on the site itself and in the surrounding area.
